Have you seen those hearts on Pinterest made out of coffee filters?? I was looking for some decorating ideas that wouldn’t cost me much money……and I thought I would give this one a try. I read through the directions and I actually had everything required to make this project. Score! So, not only did I not have to leave my house to start this project, I didn’t have to shell out one cent! I am always skeptical about these kinds of projects. though. Sometimes, even when it doesn’t cost anything but time, it doesn’t always turn out like I envisioned. Then, I am sorry I wasted time and energy on a project that ends up in the wastebasket! But take a look at this one and see what you think! I might even keep this one!
Here is my project in the first stages. I made the heart free-hand from the top of one of the boxes I had and cut it out with scissors. I grabbed some coffee filters ( not sure of the quantity) just guessing here of how many was needed! For paint I used “Americana” found at Michael’s. I used a glob (is that an exact measurement?) in a bowl and added water and mixed with a paint brush. Then just dip the tip of the coffee filters in the bowl. Unfortunately, it was one at a time. Allow the coffee filters to dry at this point.
Next, using my handy-dandy screw driver, I poked holes in my cardboard heart – trying for a pattern, but mostly ended up being random. Actually it really doesn’t matter because you can cover up the holes you don’t use or you can just poke new holes as needed.
After coffee filters are dry, fold them up and twist the bottoms so that you can poke the bottoms of the coffee filters through the holes you just poked with your screwdriver. Continue on until you feel it looks full enough and Voila!! A heart made out of coffee filters!! Two of my favorite things!! Happy Valentines Day!
