I was recently contacted by Sarina Foster-Correa, owner of Pixie Dust Paint Company. She sent me a message via my Facebook page and asked if I would like to try her product and blog about it!! I was beyond excited! And feeling really privileged that someone is asking for my opinion on a painting product! She also said that they would offer a give-away to one of my lucky followers! So Good Luck!
Let’s get started. Pixie Dust is not paint. It’s an additive that turns latex paint into a chalky-like paint for furniture and beyond! A very interesting concept. My fist step was to find a project for painting. The first thing that came to mind was a bench my daughter had given me. It was one they weren’t using anymore, and the stain on it had not been applied properly. I got out my sander and got to work. With the prep work completed it was now time to paint. Here is where the advantage of the additive comes in to play. You have virtually any color to choose from. The only requirement is that the paint be a flat latex paint. She recommends using Olympic, Valspar Ultra, and Behr Premium Plus. I was lucky enough to have some “Radiant Red” Valspar on hand. And what better color to paint a bench than red!
Mixing it couldn’t have been easier. Here’s a tip: to make a pint, use a quart mason jar. Add 1/4 cup of pixie dust powder, 3-4 tablespoons of water. Shake well. Then add the paint half-way up the jar and thoroughly shake again. This gives you a perfect pint of paint. It can be sealed and re-used for other projects. Recommended shelf life is up to 3 months. I did have lots of it left over after painting my bench.
I immediately got to work painting the bench. I did add a second coat. Letting it dry over night. I got out my sander again and immediately began “stressing” the bench in usual wear and tear areas. Lastly I applied Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil. And then polished it all up with Miss Mustard Seed’s Dark Furniture Wax.
I like how it came out. The product was very easy to use and directions were easy to understand and follow. Another plus about this product is 100% non-toxic, 100% natural and made in the United States. I would definitely use this product again.
Thank you Sarina Foster-Correa for letting me test drive your product! I really liked it! And after reading your “story” from your web-page, I am excited for you to take this business to the next level. You are already on your way! Good Luck! And Thanks!
